Troop 305 is a Scout-led family troop serving boys and girls ages 11–17 in the Latrobe–Derry area. Scouts learn by doing — camping, serving, leading, solving problems, advancing, and building confidence one experience at a time.
Troop 305 is built around leadership development, responsibility, service, advancement, teamwork, and real-world problem solving. Adults guide, mentor, organize, and keep Scouts safe — but the Scouts are expected to grow into the leaders of their own program.

Troop meetings are held Tuesdays from 6:00–8:00 PM. New families are encouraged to arrive about 10 minutes early so you can meet leaders and get settled.
Outdoor activity may occasionally be planned, so dress appropriately for the weather.
Scouts are actively involved throughout the meeting instead of simply sitting and listening.
Troop leadership and Scouts will help you get oriented. New families should feel free to introduce themselves, ask questions, meet other parents, and learn how the troop operates.
Contact Troop LeadershipScouting is a partnership between Scouts, families, and leaders. Parents are welcome to attend meetings, help with transportation, volunteer at events, assist with fundraising, and serve in support roles.
Parents who camp with the troop generally must be registered leaders and complete required training.
Troop 305 camps throughout the year in every season. Camping is a foundation of the program, not an occasional extra. Scouts learn planning, cooking, tent setup, gear management, teamwork, and leadership outdoors.
New Scouts are encouraged to attend campouts early — confidence and skills build quickly through participation.
The annual program may include winter camping/Klondike activities, camporees, monthly troop campouts, hikes, service projects, and summer camp at Camp Conestoga.
See the CalendarTroop 305 uses Scoutbucks as a non-currency internal tracking system for approved fundraising participation. Scouts can earn credits that may be applied toward eligible Scouting expenses such as campouts, summer camp, and approved troop activities.
The system is designed to encourage goal setting, ownership, and financial responsibility.
Fundraisers may include hoagie sales, meat sticks, popcorn, peanut sales, and other unit fundraising opportunities throughout the year.
Participation also helps Scouts build confidence, communication skills, accountability, teamwork, and work ethic.
Fundraising InformationScouts advance at their own pace by learning outdoor and leadership skills, demonstrating what they know, completing service and other requirements, participating actively, and living by the Scout Oath and Law.
The trail progresses from Scout through Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle.
Explore AdvancementYouth leadership is a core part of Troop 305. Scouts may serve in positions such as Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Scribe, Instructor, Historian, and other roles as they grow.
Leadership is learned by doing — planning, communicating, making decisions, solving problems, and helping others succeed.
Band is the troop’s primary communication platform. Families use it for announcements, reminders, troop communication, and day-to-day updates.
Troop 305 also maintains a private Facebook group for additional updates, event photos, and announcements. Parents and Scouts can contact troop leadership to be added.
Ask questions, come to meetings, get involved, and give your Scout room to learn. Independence builds confidence, responsibility builds character, and every Scout’s trail looks a little different.
